Destination Gufapokhari
Sankhuwasava
Alt: 2890 mtrs.
To get there A six hours of bus ride from Dharan will get you to Basantapur. One day walk from Basantapur to Gufa. But I suggest to make one day stay at Chauki, the half way and another day to Gufa, if you really want to enjoy the journey and beautiful scenery.
Cost Maximum of Rs 200 per day.(excluding bus fare from dharan to basantapur)
Best season to visit During the first week of Bhadra till Mangsir (September-November)
Falgun till last week of Baishak (March-May).
What to take First thing i would suggest is a Camera. A professional knows what gear to take, but if you are a rookie with a SLR, try to manage a tele lens and a wide lens and of course some extra memory cards.
Just take basic stuffs, as shops and houses are available on the way in reasoanable price. Though i suggest to take lots of Chocolates as chocolates are very good things at the high altitude.
Some warm clothes and really nice trekking boots.
Places to make stops First stop i suggest is Ghurbise, just about 2 hours of enjoyable walk after Basantapur.
Make a one night stay at Chauki, the halfway of the journey.
After reaching gufabazar:
Menchyam danda, take a local with you. Better to reach this place for sunrise. You'll get a mesmerizing view of Mt. Kumbhakarna, Mt. Kanchanjunga. At this place, Also search for the gufa (cave).
Jorpokhari, just about 20 minutes of walk.
Milke, you'll find the maximum varities of rhododendran (gurans) in this place.
You should try Don't forget to try Yak meat, Yak churpi and Tongba (I suggest though i don't drink).
